Fall Retreat 2018
Our retreat in Green Lake last weekend was really fun! Although the weather got rather exciting Saturday- I’ve never seen such big waves on Green Lake – the learning and time spent together more than made up for it. Big cheers to Cathy Glover for her welcome gifts of refillable water bottles with the WQSG logo. On Friday night, Sharon Pinka discussed planning for the future dispersal of your collection, and provided excellent guidance. Saturday, after a hearty breakfast, we learned about the Rainbow Quilt Company. Many of us recognized the designs in pieces Sharon brought to share. After lunch, Sharon spoke about doll and crib quilts. She pointed out some ways to be sure you are actually purchasing one of them, not a piece of a larger quilt. During the free time, many attendees headed to Ripon to shop at Bungalow Quilts. Others stayed behind and helped set up the Silent Auction. After dinner, Sharon added a short talk about woven coverlets, illustrated with some gorgeous examples. Attendee show and tell was fabulous, with everything from a wonderful group of Sunbonnet Sues and kin, to an inscribed piece dating to the 1840s. The silent auction was a big success, with no items going unbid. Sunday morning we learned about embroidered summer spreads and saw gorgeous examples. A huge thank you is due to Jayne Steffens, who found the location and speaker for us all. We will be planning another retreat for 2020, details to come.
