November 2019 meeting
Final reminder…our next meeting will be Saturday November 9 at Blue Bar Quilts, 6333 University Avenue, Middleton WI 53562, 608-284-9299. The shop opens at 10. Owner Gael Boyd will do a presentation on the impact of the Modern Quilt Movement. Blue Bar is a fascinating shop catering to the modern demographic but friendly and welcoming to all. There is also a wonderful surface design studio in the basement, and Gael will be happy to give tours. There is no rental charge so I hope you will consider adding to your collections of fabric while at Blue Bar! There are many eating options in the neighborhood or you can bring a bag lunch. We will have a business meeting and show and tell. Hope to see you there!!
Planning for 2020
March 21: Sandy Schweitzer has graciously volunteered to do the March program and has chosen Sampler Quilts as her topic. The meeting will be held at Buttons and Bows Quilt Shop, from 10-2. The address is 27642 75th Street, Salem, WI. Salem is west of Racine/Kenosha in the southeast part of the state. There are options for purchasing sandwiches nearby. More details closer to the date. Sandy will be focusing on the samplers from the late 1800s into the 1900s which were like a library of blocks. If you own anything like this, please plan to bring it along.
July 11: WMQFA Cedarburg: Bonnie Jensen will discuss quilt repair and restoration. She is very knowledgeable and will share tips, tricks and strategies for deciding what can be fixed and what should be left alone.
Fall Retreat 2020: We are tentatively planning “Coulee Country Quilts,” a trip to the La Crosse area with retreat centered around the La Crosse County Historical Society. A discussion at Seminar with AQSG member Peggy Derrick sparked this idea. Allison will be meeting with Peggy at the museum soon to get the ball rolling.
